has plenty of cool, hip cafes around for us to visit for weekend
breakfasts, but those cafes are usually small, loud and crowded. The
other travel bunnie and I often find ourselves stuck at a table just
big enough to fit two plates while sitting on
milk-crate-turned-chairs.Although usually the food as well as the
coffee are nothing but amazing, sometimes we just want some peace and
quite, to have some nice food in a relaxing environment.
We
found ourselves at Nantucket Kitchen and Bar last Sunday, where owner
TJ Peabody just happened to be brunching with his family. Despite
being attached to the newly improved Indooroopilly Shopping Centre,
Nantucket is nothing like what you would usually expect of a shopping
centre food outlet. Its elegantly decorated space beamed at me and
immediately transported me to another place; The Hamptons to be
exact.
I
mean, what's not to like about the look of this place? With its
nautical theme, Nantucket is spacious, sophisticated yet relaxing. We
were quickly taken to a table where we sipped on an iced English
Breakfast tea ($6.50) and a Lemon Lime & Bitters ($4) while we
studied the menu, which boosts American classics, from clam chowder
to crab cakes. For a light lunch, the other travel bunnie
ordered Pork
sliders on brioche, crumbed blue cheese ($20),
and as for me, I ordered the Traditional
Waldorf salad with tuna($22).
The food was good. Especially the sliders, perhaps a little small for
twenty dollars but those little sliders were damn tasty. The salad on
the other hand was light and fresh, and those toasted walnuts! They
were so delicious. The tuna was delicately seared on the
outside and still pink in the middle, which presented an extremely
soft texture. If I was being picky, I'd have to say that I would've
preferred a little more seasoning to the salad.
Lunch
was finished with a chocolate
and salted caramel tart, honeycomb ice cream ($15)
for me. The tart was the highlight of the meal. It was creamy, rich
and almost orgasmic. I felt like I was in chocolate heaven!
Even
though the wait staff were a touch snooty, our lunch at Nantucket
Kitchen and Bar was a pleasing affair, with its tasteful décor an
added bonus.
