Bar Alto, 119 Lamington Street, NEW FARM QLD 4005

We hardly ever go out for lunch on the weekends because I tend to wake up later than usual and breakfast normally involves a decent amount of food.

A while ago, the ferry that we took to Byblos went past Bar Alto and the other travel bunnie thought it would be a great idea to have lunch there one day.

So last Saturday, we took a pleasant ride on the ferry to the Brisbane Powerhouse where Bar Alto is located.

I think the location of this establishment is stunning. It was a sunny early afternoon and we got a table outside on the balcony, which provided a breathtakingly beautiful view of the river.

The chef, Sajith Vengateri used to work for the Carnival Cruise Lines and we were excited to savour the food because it's about two months until we take our first ever cruise trip to the Caribbean with Carnival.

This year, customers at Bar Alto can experience a culinary journey through Italy as the restaurant provides regional lunches from every Tuesday to Saturday of the week and we escaped to Tuscany without having to leave the country. The food was mouthwatering. We had Tuscan chicken liver crostini as a starter, which was followed by ‘nude’, cavalo nero and ricotta ravioli with sage butter and hand rolled spaghetti, chili, garlic and bread crumbs for entrees. Our main meals were Florentine beef cheek stew with chianti, garlic and black pepper and pan-fried market fresh white fish, chili, tomato, black olives, evoo. The beef cheek stew was so tender and tasty, it is definitely a must try dish.

Finally, their Florentine cake filled with chocolate, hazelnuts, saffron cream put a sweet finish to our lunch affair. I'm not a wine drinker but I thought the glass of 2009 Poggiotondo’ Cerro del Masso’ was light and delicious.

I really enjoyed Bar Alto and I think their Regional Lunch is a great way to sample authentic flavours of the Mediterranean without having to leave the country.

Total Bunnie Dollars Spent: $80 (or thereabouts)
