Saké Restaurant & Bar, Level 1, 45 Eagle St, Eagle Street Pier Brisbane, 4000
As a celebration of this bunny successfully completing the final segment of her professional studies, the very lovable and supportive HB took to me to Saké.
First thing you should know, we LOVE Saké. Absolutely, without a doubt. It was not our first time.
The restaurant is located on Eagle Street and it is definitely a “sexy” addition to Brisbane’s culinary destinations. The word “sexy” is no overstatement as this Japanese restaurant feels so sophisticated and stylish, it is so well presented and the restaurant’s hostesses and waiters were definitely bonus points. Oh, and did I mention that they make really good food? So, thisbunny went a little overboard with the picking & ordering from the menu. Well, it was hardly my fault if the dishes all sound ‘oh-so-tempting’… (right?)
So, I provide you with the following list of food:
Miso soup w’ tofu, spring onion & wakame ($5.00)
Popcorn shrimp ($27.00)
Beef tataki ($18.00)
Sashimi combo ($45.00)
Salmon & avocado sushi maki ($13.00)
Spider maki ($17.00) -
Beef tataki was my favourite on the night. The taste of that juicy, flavourful seared beef tenderloin topped with garlic chips and snow peas sprouts still lingers in my mind.
We also had some hot sake and green tea with our meals.
Dining at Saké was definitely a memorable experience and it’s the perfect destination for a romantic celebratory dinner.
PS: don’t forget to check out their restrooms (a destination in itself)
Melange Cafe, 1 Parkland Boulevard, BRISBANE QLD 4000
There's nothing better than waking up 'early' on a Saturday morning, seeing the soft sunlight beaming down on the person sleeping next to you. And then… he takes you out for a big, healthy breakfast and a nice cup of Caramel Latte.
That Saturday morning, we had breakfast at Melange. I love the interior of that cafe, especially those elegant chandeliers hanging down from the cafe's high ceiling.
The other travel bunny had Egg Benedict w' shaved ham ($16) and I had the Melange Big Breakfast ($20.50). Their servings are quite generous and the tomato chutney served with my meal was delicious. Coffee, however was pretty ordinary.
Coffee Square, Shop 21g Market Square, 341 Mains Road Sunnybank
I used to go to Coffee Square quite often when I was at uni. Ordering was always easy because I’d always have either Set A or Set B and never anything else. Going back to Coffee Square after its recent renovation was like a revisit of my uni memories. ‘Set B’ as usual, it came with soup, main and a drink (~ $10.00). The other travel bunny ordered a Combination Omelette w’ Rice (under $15.00). I have to admit, Coffee Square isn’t exactly ‘cuisine quality’, but if it’s a quick bite and great value that you are after. It’s definitely worth a visit.
PS. I love their coffee tea served w’ ice.
Guzman y Gomez, Emporium, 1000 Ann St Brisbane, 4006
I have an announcement to make. Guzman Y Gomez is my new favourite fast food joint. I have always secretly envied those Yankees, because they have Taco Bell and we don’t (I know it’s a lil’ shallow, but seriously, 99¢ for a taco, how can you possibly resist??). Until, I found this place. Situated amongst a number of hip dining destinations in the Valley, this Mexican casual restaurant is unique, fresh and oh so affordable.
The night when the bunnies went there for the first time, we ordered the usual Mexican must-eats: ‘Mini B’ Burritos ($6.50) and Quesadillas (2 for $7.50). I ended up pinching bites from the travel bunny’s delicious burrito and I strongly recommend it! *sorry, not the pinching food from other people part!*
PS. They also offer frozen margaritas for $8.50 each. Hola!!!
JJ Jackson, 120 Edward St Brisbane, 4000
One day, a friend of mine suggested that we go to JJ Jackson for some Korean food and my first reaction was, why would a Korean restaurant have such a strange name like that?
But when you see it, you'll know that JJ Jackson is different to other Korean restaurants in Brissy. It's a combo of bar+cafe+restaurant with a modern decor. I've been there for quite a few times now and the food has always been fresh and tasty.
$15 - $25 per main.
Langham Place Hong Kong
Choosing a hotel to stay at when in HongKong wasn't exactly easy.
Well, first, you gotta decide which side to stay - Kowloon or the HongKong side? Pouring over maps, reading other people's suggestions on Tripadvisor and not to mention, googling the best area for local food, we spent a fair amount of time on deciding the best place to stay during our first visit to this buzzing city.
However, as we were standing in front of the hotel that we FINALLY picked, we were more than happy with the decision. Our 4-night stay at the Langham Place in Mongkok, was an amazing experience.
The hotel is situated at a great location just off Nathan Road (well, what can you possibly complain about when the hotel is literally connected to a giant shopping mall?) with the MTR station right outside and only a few steps away from the markets.
The hotel service was exceptional. The hotel staff were so polite and helpful, they always smile and greet to you.
We stayed in a Residence Suite on level 37, which offers you the access to the hotel's Club L. Now, to those of you who is considering booking a room at this hotel, it is imperative that you book a suite! Club L not only offers late check out at 2pm, free wireless internet, it also provides snacks, afternoon tea and evening cocktails and canapés as well as refreshments served at various times during the day. Need I say more?
Both of us really enjoyed our stay at the Langham Place. It provided us with a sense of serenity in this buzzing city.
PS: remember to open the freezer, because you never know what you'll find…
oh, and remember to check out their roof top pool.
**Beginning of a bunny's gibberish ranting** The only downside about our stay was, well, we both found our king size bed too big for cuddling bunnies like us when sleeping at night. So be careful, because you can easily lose each other if you don't hold on tight **End of a bunny's gibberish ranting**
Where were the bunnies?
Last month was my birthday month (yes, you read it correctly, at Bunnyland, we celebrate our birthdays in style for the whole month), so we took a nice trip to the big buzzing city - HongKong.
